3 Wine Bars you Must Experience
Portugal is internationally known for its top-quality wines. The region of Lisbon, in addition to all its cultural and historical heritage, has a total of 9 DOC wine regions (Denomination of Controlled Origin), producing numerous quality wines that you can find and experience in some Wine Bars in the city.
The Best Experience Lisbon team chose three locations in Lisbon not to be missed for all those who believe that wine can be a true nectar of the gods.
Enoteca de Belém – Wine, where are you?
The Enoteca de Belém overcame the difficulties of being located in a small space by using binoculars. Let us explain: since there is no wine list, due to the Enoteca’s dynamics and because the bottles are a bit far from the customers, the wine choice is made using binoculars, allowing you to observe the bottles in their shelves, along with the advice and clarifications by the house staff, of course. Another particularity of the Enoteca is the fixed price of wine by the glass and bottle. Finally, but not least important, is the fact that the Enoteca de Belém is part of a cultural project, the Travessa da Ermida, with an exhibition space at the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Conceição and a Jewellery workshop by Alexandra Corte-Real.

Charariz do Vinho – Wine tasting at a historical monument
Chafariz do Vinho is a historical monument, a place with over 250 years of history. It used to be a water fountain that got transformed into a wine bar. In the wine cellar you will find old wines that have been tasted by the house staff. Among them is oenologist João Paulo Martins, one of the four owners. Manfred Kleinhaus, the manager, highlights “a set of wines of ancient national vine varieties that nowadays are a minority or nearly forgotten by the producers and that have resulted in original and unique wines, impossible to see in other countries, because these varieties are strictly Portuguese”. Dão and Bairrada are the standout regions in this wine bar´s list. João Paulo Martins also highlights the fact that Chafariz do Vinho has “tapas you won’t find anywhere else in Lisbon”.
